Wow, after researching about Kelly Fryer I have gained so much respect for this woman. I think a huge part of my reflection should be about what stood out most to me about her, and this was the fact that she truly cares about the education of ALL students no matter what background they are from. On the 'More Similarities than Differences,' I really liked discovering and studying the Hierarchy of needs. I am a visual learner and really liked seeing this hierarchy. On this page, Kelly said "All students need to feel safe, both emotionally and physically. Students often express concerns and occasionally fears about being bullied by classmates." I think the hierarchy of needs is a great resource to use when dealing with kids with any needs, which that be physical or emotional issues. On the 'Building Relationships with Students #GSPD," link, I discovered more information from Kelly that I found really helpful. I stayed on this link for a long time because it felt very personal with me and i related to it. She talked a lot about how important building a classroom community is. I took this personal because I remember a time from grade school when I felt like an outcast, and a classroom community would've really helped me. Being one of the only black kids in my elementary school, I often felt distanced from the other kids in my classroom. As a future educator, I can learn a lot from Kelly's experiences about her classroom communities and use it in my future. If you make a difference in even one kid's life, that is all that matters. Kelly is also a great technology teacher. I looked at a few of her tech education links and this also really interested me. Her iPad class looks really cool, and her artwork that she shared from "bat week" was also really awesome. I agree with what she said about technology being important to incorporate into teaching. From site to site, as I learned about Kelly, I found one common thing, and that is that she is so passionate about the students.
